The etymology of the word "Apocalypse" lies in the Greek words apo (away from) and kaluptein (cover), together meaning "to pull the cover away from". Who knew George Clinton and P-funk were being so directly apocryphal with their oft-repeated threats to "Tear the roof off the sucka"? Not this author. Easily the most controversial book in the Bible, Revelations sparked a dustup in 4th century Rome over its inclusion in the Great Book. The (mis-)reading of apocalyptic literature also forms the backdrop of conflict and Inquisitorial persecution to Umberto Eco's excellent 'The Name of the Rose'.
